Open Streets: Arts and Crafts
Sunday 26 May, 13:00 - 16:00
Open Streets festival on Sunday 26 May will bring all things Arts & Crafts to Leicester city centre. We’re temporarily closing streets to cars and opening them up for people, so you can join us for traffic free walks, talks, tours and bike rides, arts, crafts and games, cycle market and bike fix entertainment, street food and much more!
This month’s FREE activities include guided tours by bike to discover those who were influential in the Arts & Crafts movement and take a walking tour to explore the history and recent regeneration of the Greyfriars Townscape Heritage area.
New Market Square will be a hub for bike hire, free rickshaw rides and a free bike-fixing service. Try your hand at painting your very own ‘Clean Air Rock’ and join a tour around the city to see the live street art taking place as part of the Bring the Paint Festival.
Take the younger ones to make and decorate their own crown from 1-4pm at the King Richard III Visitor Centre and have them feel like a king or queen for the day and hear talks about arts & crafts and its influence in the design of 21st Century cities.
Other activities include outdoor exhibitions, arts and crafts using stamps inspired by Leicester’s historic buildings, and the chance to take part in a glass painting workshop.
Open Streets is supported by Ride Leicester, British Cycling, Sustrans, Choose How You Move, B-Buddies, Graffwerks HQ, Townscape Heritage Project, Heritage Lottery, King Richard III Visitor Centre, Leicester Cathedral and Leicester Market.
