Open Streets – King Richard III
Sunday 25 August, 11:00 - 16:00
This month we are closing the roads to traffic on the last Sunday of the month for a double celebration! August’s Open Streets coincides with Let’s Ride Leicester; a free, fun cycling festival for the whole family! Come along and enjoy seeing the city from the saddle. You don’t need to be an experienced cyclist – there will be no cars on the road, so you can wobble, zig-zag and stop as much as you like! Find out more about HSBC UK Let’s Ride Leicester.
In true Leicester Open Streets style, there will be guided walks, tours and bike rides as well as live graffiti, stamp art and a comedy tour, all in line with this months’ theme of King Richard III. Create a battle shield and colour in your own portrait of the King at the King Richard III Visitor Centre, and meet Beau Sanglier, King Richard’s Herald-at-Arms, and test your knowledge of the King in a fun quiz! Hear all about the discovery of the “King Under the Car Park” and then enjoy free live music at St Martins Square!
Cyclone Works will be on hand for punk-art bike try-outs, blaster-balls, record-spinning art and smoothie-making in New Market Square, as well as rickshaw rides with Ride Leicester, adapted bikes for all abilities, health projects and bike fixing.
Visit the Dome in Jubilee Square for Ride Leicester’s ‘Broken Record Swing Festival’ – Dancing, food & art gallery for all ages and abilities and have a go on some of Future Cycles’ Vintage Bikes.
