Calling all Leicestershire residents!

Do you want to get back into cycling but don’t have a bike available to you? Do you have children that have outgrown their bikes and need an upgrade?

The Choose How You Move team has now opened applications for Big Bike Boost grants.

What am I eligible for?

What am I eligible for?

Leicestershire residents are welcome to apply for a grant to receive the below:

  1. Up to £400 towards an adult bike or £300 towards a child’s bike.
  2. Up to £30 for safety equipment, including a helmet, bike lock and elbow/knee pads.

One application is for one bike. If you’d like to receive a grant for more than one person (e.g. for dependents or children), please submit an application for each bike required.

How does the grant work?

How does the grant work?

  1. Make an application via the online form.
  2. Once the team have assessed applications, you will receive an email accepting or rejecting your application. If your application is accepted, you will be emailed a letter with a unique reference number.
  3. You will then need to provide us with proof of address to ensure the applicant is a Leicestershire resident.
  4. You can either go to a store of your choice (in-person or online), pay for the bike and any equipment up front and then send your receipt to the Choose How You Move team for reimbursing. Or, you can go to one of our approved bike shops, where you can find your perfect bike & equipment, and the store will seek reimbursement directly from the Choose How You Move team – no money needs to leave your pocket!

Please note the grant does have an upper limit and anything over this will not be reimbursed.

All grants are approved on a first come first served basis.

You will be required to provide proof of address to obtain a reimbursement.

Cycle Training

If you think you may want some further training after receiving your bike, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Alternatively, Cycling UK is offering free adult cycle courses across Leicestershire.

Evaluating the Grants

Once you have your bike and safety equipment, all we ask is that you provide us with some data for our monitoring. This includes a short travel survey and information on how you’re using your new bike.

We would also like to make some case studies on how these bikes are then used to provide to the Department for Transport. We may reach out to you and ask if you’d be willing to support this.
