Leicestershire schools programme

The Leicestershire Schools Programme supports schools in encouraging safe, healthy and sustainable travel.

Through initiatives such as:

  • Active Travel Schools Programme (Scootability & Gearing You Up)
  • Modeshift STARS
  • School Streets
  • Primary School Grants

Schools can access resources, funding and expert support to help more pupils walk, wheel, cycle or use public transport for their journeys to and from school.

The programme aims to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and promote active lifestyles for children and families.

Climate Action Plan

All schools are encouraged to have a Climate Action Plan in place, in line with the Department for Education’s sustainability and climate change strategy.

By 2025, education settings should have nominated a sustainability lead and developed a plan that sets out actions across four key areas: decarbonisation, adaptation and resilience, biodiversity, and climate education and green careers.

A Climate Action Plan helps schools reduce their environmental impact, improve sustainability across the curriculum and school estate, and engage pupils, staff and the wider community in creating a greener future.
