Group Walks in July

Welcome to our group walks programme for July 2025.  

Walks are free to attend but places must be booked. For full details of each walk and to book, please visit Eventbrite via the links below.  Alternatively, book by phone during office hours (excludes weekends and bank holidays). Our contact details are at the bottom of the page.

Our Walks this month…

Social Walk: Abbey Park to Ellis Meadows via Abbey Pumping Station for Railway Day

Saturday 5 July at 11am – 2pm
Starting outside the Abbey Park cafe.
Allow 3 hours in total for walk and time at the event. Steady pace.
Decide between a short walk (1 mile each way), suitable for families, and a longer walk (2 miles out, plus 1 mile return)  for those who enjoy stretching their legs. Both walks provide free time at Abbey Pumping Station to enjoy Railway Day with Meccano and check out the Mealbarrow Extravaganza, book bus, free museum – and more! Train rides cost 50p – cash only. Bring your own refreshments, picnic outside and enjoy relaxing in the museum grounds.

Social Walk: Let’s Get Together Social STOMP!
Thursday 17 July at 11am – 1pm.
Starting from Town Hall Square, close to The Bike Park.
Around 1 hour 45 minutes in total for social activity and walk. Steady pace. Accessible. 1.5 miles.
Enjoy a short friendly walk with a social opportunity. This month we gather for a social quiz, followed by short walk visiting some of the fantastic elephant art sculptures on the LOROS Stomp Round Leicester art trail!  This walk is suitable for most. Walking or wheeling, do join us!

Special interest walk: On the trail of Arthur Wakerley from Spinney Hill Park 
Saturday 19 July at 11am
Starting outside the cafe, centre of Spinney Hill Park, off East Park Road.
75 – 90 minutes, with information stops. Steady pace. 1.7 miles.
Join us for a group walk through the area around Spinney Hill Park, taking in some of the work of renowned architect Arthur Wakerley from the late 19th and early-20th century, pausing for a little information along the way. Please note: This walk has been adapted from our original ‘Factory Trail from Spinney Hill Park’ which has been split into two separate (shorter) walks with different themes.

Special interest walk – A Short Walk along Belgrave Gate (New!)

Monday 21 July at 2pm

Starting outside Haymarket bus station, Belgrave Gate entrance.

75 –90 minutes, with information stops. Steady pace. 1.3 miles.

A short walk along Belgrave Gate, discovering former public buildings of the 19th and 20th century – some repurposed and others long gone. The walk includes theatres, cinemas, churches and the former Belgrave railway station. This short walk is ideal for new walkers.

Wildlife walk: A Walk on the Wild Side in Braunstone Park
Thursday 24 July at 10am
Starting from the gates of Winstanley House, centre of Braunstone Park.
Around 60-90 minutes with information stops. Steady pace.

Take a nature walk with a wildlife expert who will talk about seasonal insects, plants and animals found in the meadows. Please note this route includes soft, uneven paths, so this is not an accessible walk.

Special interest walk: On the trail of Leicester’s Sporting Links
Sunday 27 July at 12.45pm

Starting from Town Hall Square off Horsefair Street, near the Bike Park
Around 90 minutes with information stops. Steady pace.
Join us on a trail through the city centre to discover links to some of Leicester’s sports people and sporting events, past and present. Some personalities have disappeared from popular knowledge but played a significant part in their day, while others are very well known to us all.
