Welcome to our group walks programme for August 2025.  

Walks are free to attend but places must be booked. For full details of each walk and to book, please visit Eventbrite via the links below.  Alternatively, book by phone during office hours (excludes weekends and bank holidays). Our contact details are at the bottom of the page.

Our Walks this month…

Special Interest Walk: Stoneygate – Its people and places 
Wednesday 6 August at 11am 

Starting outside Stoneygate Baptist Church, London Road. (Bus stop nearby) 

Up to 90 minutes with information stops. Steady pace. 1.2 miles. 

Join us for a walk through the attractive suburb of Stoneygate, discovering some of its former residents and places of heritage interest. Formerly farmland, the area underwent much development from the mid-19th century to become one of Leicester’s most desirable locations.

Wildlife walk: A Walk on the Wild Side in Ellis Meadows
Wednesday 13 August at 10am
Starting on Corporation Road, opposite Abbey Pumping Station
Around 60-90 minutes with information stops. Steady pace.

Take a nature walk with a wildlife expert who will talk about seasonal insects, plants and animals found in Ellis Meadows. Please note this route includes soft, uneven paths, so this is not an accessible walk.

Special Interest Walk:
Seasonal Tree Tour in Aylestone Rec (north) and St Mary’s Open Space

Saturday 16 August at 11am

Starting outside Aylestone Leisure Centre, Knighton Lane East.
Up to 2 hours, with information stops. 1.8 miles. Steady pace.
A guided walk through two of Leicester’s lovely green spaces, presented by the volunteer Tree Wardens. The Tree Wardens will provide interesting snippets of information to enjoy as you wander around these beautiful green spaces, taking in mature fruit trees and other fascinating types. Please note: our route includes some soft grass paths and slopes, so is not wheelchair accessible.

Special Interest Walk:
Exploring Leicester’s Food & Drink connections
Sunday 24 August at 1pm

Starting in Town Hall Square, off Horsefair Street (close to the Bike Park).
Around 90 minutes, with information stops. 1.5 miles. Steady pace.
This walk provides fascinating facts about food and drink in Leicester, from grocery shops to well-known food and drink manufacturers and different cuisines.  Please note: no food or drink is provided during the walk!
