WALK CANCELLED: Coal & the industrial revolution in Leicester

Starting from Jubilee Square, city centre.

WEATHER UPDATE:

Unfortunately, this walk is cancelled due to the snow and icy weather over the weekend making conditions along the route unsuitable. Although the forecast for Tuesday is milder, the walk uses sections of the canal path which are shaded in places and also include several slopes. We cannot guarantee that the snow and ice will have thawed sufficiently in these areas by Tuesday morning, so there is still a chance that conditions will be slippery.

We don’t make these decisions lightly but feel that cancelling the walk is the best option for the safety of our walkers and volunteers.  We’re very sorry for any disappointment. 

We will look to reschedule this walk for springtime in 2022 and will be in touch with that booked you nearer the time.

This new themed walk is led and presented by one of our volunteers with an interest in Leicester’s industrial past. Join us to reflect on the importance of coal in Leicester’s industrial revolution, discover the key infrastructure which enabled coal to be imported to Leicester and to visit some of the former industrial sites where coal was used. The walk is around 3 miles with several information stops along the way. Due to the duration of this ‘walk and talk’, there will be a short comfort break about half-way around the route in a park with public toilet facilities. We will then resume the walk and return to the city centre.
